About Sidi Kaouki
Sidi Kaouki is a village and long beach about 25 km south of Essaouira, with the white marabout (shrine) of Sidi Kaouki on the beach. It is used for both surf and kite. The beach faces west-south-west (about 255°).
Which wind works at Sidi Kaouki?
A pure north wind is roughly side-shore here, but the beach faces further south than Essaouira bay, so the wind turns side-offshore sooner: we count 15° to 135° (roughly NNE round through E to SE) as offshore.
Orientation comes from OpenStreetMap coastline data, averaged over a few kilometres of beach around the spot. A straight offshore wind here blows from 75°; we count 15° to 135° (±60°) as offshore or side-offshore.
Hazards to know
- Open Atlantic swell: check the live wave height and period before going.
- NNE and NE winds, which are fine in Essaouira bay, are offshore here.
- About 25 km from town: do not ride alone, and plan your transport back.

Wind: daytime mean in knots, 11:00–18:00 Moroccan clock time of the period (≈ 10:00–17:00 on today's UTC+0 clock). ≥ 12 kn: share of days whose daytime mean reaches 12 knots. Dir.: most common direction of daytime hours with 8 kn or more. Waves: offshore significant height and period. Sea: offshore surface temperature.
ERA5 is a grid of about 25–30 km that smooths local thermal and coastal acceleration, so real beach winds are often stronger. Use these numbers to compare months and spots, not as a promise. Waves are offshore model values, not wave height at the beach.
